Life on the FARM

Wilson’s Farm and Kitchen is based at Cowbog Farm in the Scottish Borders – the home of the Wilson Family.

Cowbog Farm lies next to the edge of the pretty Borders village of Morebattle, situated in the foothills of the Cheviot Hills, adjacent to St Cuthbert’s Way. This calm and peaceful setting in the Scottish Borders is just over an hour’s drive from Newcastle and Edinburgh, and 25 and 35 minutes from Tweedbank and Berwick-upon-Tweed railway stations respectively.

Cowbog is a busy working family farm with approximately 250 head of cattle, arable crops and a host of conservation features that the cows help to manage. Three generations of the Wilson family have been stewards of Cowbog since 1938. Through sensitive management, the farm strives to protect and enhance its biodiversity while still being economic.

The Scottish Borders is an area of exceptional beauty and history. Cowbog Farm is particularly noted for its beautiful riverside location and fantastic views of both The Cheviot Hills and the ruins of nearby Cessford Castle.

The Wilson Family

Lucy was born and bred in Adelaide, Australia and moved to Scotland in 2000. She comes from a long line of backyard vegetable growers! The fresh ingredients, farmer’s markets and ethnically diverse restaurants of her homeland have definitely contributed to her style in the kitchen today. Having worked as a freelance cook for private clients for many years, Lucy oversees the kitchen and menus at Wilson’s Farm and Kitchen. She is committed to showcasing our own farm produce, especially our grass-fed Hereford beef, and also other local produce. Robert and Lucy’s children enjoy helping about the farm and meeting people.

Robert is the third generation of his family to be custodian of Cowbog, and having lived on the farm all his life, he knows every inch of it well. Robert is in charge of the day-to-day health and welfare of our animals. He is a keen advocate of the British farming industry and passionate about people understanding where their food comes from and the importance of farms.

Robert’s parents Ron and Joan still live on Cowbog and continue to help out when needed, providing great farming and local knowledge.

The Wilsons are experienced hosts and love welcoming groups to their farm to share their story.
