Our Animals
Our herd and other animals
Our herd was established in 1955, and is now one of the oldest, largest and most respected herds in Europe.
Our cattle have taken part in agricultural shows since 1961, and the ancestry of the animals on the farm can be traced back for hundreds of years.
The health and well-being of our animals is paramount at all times. We are welfare-assured and a Quality Meat Scotland registered farm, routinely checking our stock a minimum of twice day for any sign of unhappiness. Our cattle are raised on a grass-based system and spend as many months as possible in our fields. Hereford beef is prized for it’s marbled meat which results in fantastic flavour and succulence.
We also have highland cross cattle and small flock of Herdwick sheep along with ponies, hens and dogs!
The farm is home to a diverse range of wildlife which you are certain to see on any tours or self-guided walks - particularly roe deer, hare and an exceptional variety of birdlife.
